A bill passed by a vote of 106-36 in The Vermont House to legalize abortion at any stage of pregnancy and for any reason. The H57 bill states; “Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry a pregnancy to term, give birth to a child, or to have an abortion,”
People who oppose the bill say, “the legislation is more expansive of abortion rights than the extremist bills passed in New York and Virginia.” The bill was co-sponsored by 90 Democratic legislators.
The bill takes away the unborn child’s rights or acknowledges of their individuality by Vermont. “A fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus shall not have independent rights under Vermont law,” it reads.
Rebuff by Democrats the Republicans presented revisions to the bill, as well as requirements for; “women to receive an ultrasound before aborting their baby.” An additional requirement required; “minors to have parental consent before aborting a child — that was voted down as well.”
Alexandra DeSanctis of National Review excoriated Democrats who support the law, saying it “makes a frightening statement about the Democratic Party’s increasingly extreme view of abortion rights.”
